Eagle’s Eyes Cricket Club – its genesis and thereafter

When I was 8 years old, I and some of my friends wanted to start a cricket club. The first thing that we wanted to buy was a bat. It was costing 170 bucks and after a lot of requests to the chap at the shop, he was willing to give it to us at 160 bucks. There were 9 of us, and all of us went to our parents and asked for some money and we collected 90 bucks, which was woefully short of what we wanted.

At that point in time, I got influenced by a movie and came up with the idea of collecting old newspapers from the neighborhood and selling it to fund our cricket club. We did that from 250 houses and it gave us truck loads of old newspapers. We sold them and this gave us enough money to buy the entire kit and launch the club after that. We named it as ‘Eagle’s Eyes Cricket Club’, and this was as much creativity as we had then when it came to naming. Till such time that I was in that locality, all our club activities were funded by old newspapers from the neighborhood.
